This woven crinkle satin is a 100% polyester fabric in a satin weave, finished at 140 GSM and 150 cm wide, and given a fine crinkle treatment on top of that satin base. Two things come together in it: the satin base gives a smooth, lustrous face and a fluid fall, while the crinkle finish raises a fine ripple across that surface, giving the cloth depth, texture and a little air between the layers.

At 140 GSM the fabric sits in the mid-light range. It is light enough for summer loungewear, shirts and dress patterns, but it has enough body to hang cleanly and hold its shape. The ripple is what makes it work as dress fabric rather than as a lining: the satin underneath keeps the fall fluid and softly lustrous, and the crinkle on top keeps the surface alive, so the cloth reads as textured even in a plain color. The ripple is also forgiving — it breaks up the flat reflections that show press marks on a plain satin, which matters for a fabric that travels in bulk rolls and is cut in the garment factory.

Specifications are typical values and are confirmed by mutual agreement before bulk production. Width tolerance, GSM tolerance and shrinkage are agreed at the point of order.

A crinkle satin is bought for two things at once — the drape and the surface. Potential problems on this construction include shade banding from uneven dyeing, snagging of the ripple during handling, and the crinkle relaxing or flattening if the cloth is stored folded under weight for a long period. These are the faults incoming inspection looks for, and the reason the bulk rolls are packed to protect the texture.

The construction is a polyester satin: a long-float weave in polyester filament, which is what produces the smooth face and the fluid fall. On top of that base the fabric is finished with a crinkle treatment, and that is where the ripple comes from — the texture is a finishing effect laid onto a satin ground, not a different weave.

This is also why the cloth behaves the way it does in wear. A plain satin reflects as one plane and stays visually flat as the garment shifts; the crinkle breaks that reflection into a fine ripple, so the surface reads as texture and the light moves across it with the garment. The practical consequence for cutting is that the satin base is stable, so a straight marker lays cleanly, and the ripple hides the crease lines that show on plain satins once a piece has been worn.

Shrinkage and width tolerance are set at the agreed sample stage and confirmed on the bulk roll before shipment. Because the crinkle is a surface effect, the approved sample should be kept and referred to for the texture depth as well as the shade.

A crinkle satin at 140 GSM and 150 cm width moves between lightweight summer and mid-season layering, which makes it a reliable base for both everyday and occasion programmes.

Inspection covers four stages: raw material, greige, finished fabric and final packing. Because a crinkle satin is bought for its surface, the finished fabric check is weighted toward face appearance, ripple depth and shade consistency rather than weight alone.
