Tencel Cotton 280 GSM
150 CM
60% LYOCELL / 40% COTTON
Item 6042 is a woven tencel-rich cotton blend — 60% lyocell / 40% cotton — in a twill weave carrying a soft, comfortable hand, finished at 280 GSM and 150 cm wide in solid dyed shades. The tencel is the comfort majority: it brings the silky hand, the fluid drape and the moisture management of a regenerated cellulose. The cotton is the natural half: it adds softness, warmth and a familiar, easy-to-wear character that makes the cloth read as considered rather than flat.
The two fibres work in balance. Tencel absorbs roughly 50% more moisture than cotton and reads cool and soft against the skin, while the cotton half gives the cloth its warmth, its comfort and its easy, familiar drape — the reason this blend is specified for garments that need to feel soft yet considered through a full day of wear. The twill weave is deliberate: it adds a subtle diagonal texture that lifts the cloth beyond a plain, flat surface.

Five properties decide how this cloth behaves in wear, and because it is a two-fibre blend, each one is the result of tencel and cotton working together. The twill texture is the point of difference from a plain cloth — tencel brings silkiness and drape, while cotton adds softness, warmth and the comfortable, familiar hand.
Where this weight sits. At 280 GSM the cloth is substantial enough to hold a clean line in a trouser or a light jacket, yet soft enough to drape a dress or a shirt — the natural choice for shirts, dresses, trousers, skirts and relaxed outerwear. The honest trade-off is that the cotton content, while it delivers softness and comfort, means the cloth will crease a little more readily than a synthetic blend — a trade-off that is part of its natural, lived-in character.
This is 60% lyocell and 40% cotton, and each fibre earns its place. The tencel is the comfort majority — it brings silkiness from the first wear and the absorbency that keeps the cloth cool and soft against the skin. The cotton contributes warmth, softness and a familiar, easy drape, and lifts the comfort so the cloth feels natural from morning to evening. The result is a fabric that wears like a premium natural fibre and reads as considered rather than flat.
Tencel has a moisture regain well above cotton — roughly 50% more absorbency — and pulls perspiration into the fibre core before releasing it to the air. Against the skin the cloth reads cool and dry, which is exactly what a shirt, dress or trouser worn through a long day needs. The cotton does not fight that: its natural softness lets the fabric manage moisture while staying comfortable against the skin.
The 40% cotton is what gives the surface its character. Cotton brings a soft, warm, familiar hand that a pure tencel cloth cannot produce, so the fabric reads as natural and comfortable from across a room rather than smooth and synthetic. The twill weave adds a subtle diagonal texture that gives the surface depth without stiffness.
The twill construction does real work here: it gives the cloth a soft, fluid drape that falls with an easy, natural line. A shirt, dress or trouser made from it hangs rather than clings, and the cotton content gives it a warm, comfortable surface. It is the kind of cloth that looks better after a few wears, not worse — the comfort is built in, not waiting to happen.
Two limits are worth stating plainly. First, this is a blend, so it cannot be sold as a pure cotton or a pure tencel — it is a soft-hand cloth with a twill weave, not a single-fibre fabric. Second, the cotton content means the cloth creases a little more readily than a synthetic blend, though the creases are part of its natural character and relax on their own. Cold gentle wash, low tumble or line dry, and a cool iron on the reverse keeps it looking its best.
At 280 GSM and 150 cm this sits in the middle of the weight range, and the middle is where the cloth can be both a dress fabric and a light trouser cloth. The tencel drape carries dresses and shirts, while the cotton softness and the twill texture give enough body for a trouser or a light jacket to hold an easy, natural line.
This is the core use. The soft tencel hand means no prickle against the skin, and the cotton content gives the surface a warm, natural softness. A bias-cut dress or a relaxed shirt made from it hangs rather than clings, and the natural drape means it looks considered through a full day rather than sagging by evening.
Off the body the same construction works as a trouser, a skirt or a relaxed suit. At 280 GSM there is enough body to hold a clean line, while the cotton softness and the twill weave mean the cloth creases gently and relaxes on its own. It works across the transitional season and into autumn and winter.
The color range runs from naturals and whites through warm apricots, earthy khakis and deep blues, held for immediate dispatch. Custom solid dyeing to Pantone TCX is available for development orders, and because the cloth is tencel-led it takes dye cleanly and evenly — one of the reasons this construction is used for color-critical work.
Hand samples and cutting samples are supplied before bulk production, either from stock greige or from a lab dip matched to your shade. For this construction we recommend sampling the finished cloth rather than the yarn alone: at 60% lyocell / 40% cotton the hand, the drape and the way the surface takes light are all decided by the fibre and its finishing, and the soft finish adds a comfort that cannot be judged from a fibre sample.
Development runs around three points: the shade matched to Pantone TCX, the weight confirmed against the end use, and the finish route confirmed with the mill. A soft finish gives a natural texture and comfortable hand, and we test shrinkage and crease behaviour on a finished sample before bulk is scheduled. Full-width greige and finished samples, small trial orders and custom development are supported for new customers.
