Linen Cotton Blend Fabric 14S
138-140 CM
14S YARN
55% LINEN / 45% COTTON
Item M1190 is a woven 55% linen / 45% cotton blend in a plain weave, spun at 14s × 14s and finished at 150 GSM and 138–140 cm wide. The 55/45 ratio is the balance point the industry settles on for a cotton-linen blend, and it is the reason this construction carries across seasons rather than only in high summer: 150 GSM is light enough for a summer shirt but has enough body for a trouser or an unlined jacket. The visible slub and matte natural finish are linen; the softness from the first wear is cotton.
Linen brings the airflow, the strength and the texture; cotton brings softness from the first wear and the elasticity that lets the cloth recover from a fold. Neither is a filler here. In comparative testing the blend reached 89% wrinkle recovery against 72% for a comparable pure linen, and withstood 18,000 abrasion cycles against 12,500 for pure linen — about 44% more. The cotton is doing real work.

Five properties decide how this cloth behaves in wear. Together they are the reason a linen / cotton is specified instead of a pure fibre or a cheaper look-alike.
Where this weight sits. In the middle of the range, and the middle is where most linen apparel actually lives. Heavier than the 60–100 GSM cloths used for sheers and summer shirting, lighter than the 200+ GSM linens used for upholstery and heavy tailoring. That makes it the natural choice for shirting that stands away from the body, dresses and skirts that hold a shape, unlined jackets — and the honest trade-off is that slightly warmer than pure linen in extreme humidity, and it does not have quite the same crisp handle.
Pure linen starts stiff and softens through washing, which means the customer has to wait for the fabric to become wearable. Cotton fills the space between the linen fibres from the start, so this cloth is comfortable against sensitive skin straight off the roll. ASTM standardised softness testing confirms the measurable gain in surface comfort while the airflow is retained.
Linen is one of the strongest natural fibres, and its long staple resists abrasion well. Cotton adds to it rather than detracting: in the same comparative work, a linen-cotton blend withstood 18,000 abrasion cycles against 12,500 for pure linen — an improvement of about 44%. It also holds its tensile strength better through repeated laundering, and the cotton content makes the pre-shrinkage behaviour more predictable.
Each flax fibre contains multiple microscopic hollow channels that act as internal capillaries and air pockets, moving heat away from the skin and letting air pass through the yarn itself. The cotton component adds its own absorbency, drawing moisture in and spreading it across a wider area so it evaporates faster.
The slub, the texture and the matte natural finish that make linen recognisable are all still here — this is a linen blend, not a smooth cotton that happens to be beige. Linen also carries a higher ultraviolet protection factor than cotton, and that advantage carries into the blend, which matters for a light-colored summer cloth.
At 150 GSM and 120 to 190 GSM this is In the middle of the range, and the middle is where most linen apparel actually lives. Heavier than the 60–100 GSM cloths used for sheers and summer shirting, lighter than the 200+ GSM linens used for upholstery and heavy tailoring.. It crosses from shirting into light tailoring, and it is worth being clear about which end of the range a buyer is buying.
This is where a linen-cotton blend earns its place over pure linen. The cotton gives the cloth the body and the dimensional stability to hold a crease in a trouser or an unlined jacket, while the linen keeps it breathable and gives it the texture that reads as a natural fabric rather than a synthetic. A cotton-linen poplin of this type is a classic choice for unstructured summer blazers precisely because of the lived-in elegance it holds.
The softness is what makes it work as a shirt. A linen shirt in a pure linen can feel like a compromise until it has been washed several times; this one is comfortable from the first wear, and the improved wrinkle recovery means it still looks sharp at the end of the day. The natural slub keeps it from looking flat or uniform in a way a plain cotton shirting does.
A plain weave at 14s gives enough body for an A-line or wrap dress to hang correctly, and the blend holds pleats and gathers better than pure linen, which can be either too limp or too stiff depending on the weave. The 138–140 cm width gives efficient marker making for long panels.
