British-Style Stretch Twill Fabric
150 CM
BRITISH-STYLE STRETCH TWILL WEAVE
94% POLYESTER 6% SPANDEX
This woven British-style stretch twill fabric is 94% polyester 6% spandex in an 2/2 twill British-style stretch twill construction. The dense, dry matte surface has a soft, smooth hand with a low-shine finish that stays cool and comfortable against the skin, and a fluid drape that moves without clinging
At 275 GSM this sits in the light-to-midweight range — light on the body with an easy, flowing drape and confident opacity, while the matte finish keeps it looking calm rather than shiny. It is a go-to fabric for modest fashion and dressmaking: flowing maxi dresses, abayas and kaftans, plus headscarves, hijabs, shawls and evening gowns — styles in steady demand across the Middle East, North Africa and Europe & America. The 150 cm width allows efficient marker making for long dress panels and generous scarf blanks alike Available in 30 in-stock dyed colors, with custom solid dyeing or printing in our 55-color morandi tone library or your own Pantone references.

Craft Differentiation: A Heavy Stretch Twill Is Not a Drape Fabric2/2 TWILL CONSTRUCTION · HEAVY WOVEN DYEING
Why a 275 GSM twill needs its own dyeing and finishing route to hold a sharp seam and a flat press.
Two stretch twills can present a similar face at first glance. Both may show a fine diagonal line and a firm hand. However, their appearance alone does not tell the whole story. The real difference often lies in the weave construction and in how the cloth is dyed and finished for a structured outerwear. At 275 GSM this is a heavy fabric. It is built to hold a sharp seam, a flat press and a clean tailored line, which means the dyeing and finishing route is developed around structure rather than around flow. A fabric that drapes well on the table can still crease badly, bow at the shoulder or lose its press in wear if the finishing route was not built for a heavy cloth. At Shaoxing Henghui Textile Co., Ltd., we develop British-style stretch twill around three points: a clear 2/2 twill construction, a heavy woven dyeing formula and a shape-retention finishing route. 1. Why Heavy Stretch Twill Behaves DifferentlyA 275 GSM twill carries far more yarn per square metre than a light satin or a fluid drape fabric. That extra weight is what gives the cloth its structure, and it also changes how the dyeing process has to be run. At sample stage two fabrics may feel similar, but differences become clearer during bulk cutting and garment making. Potential problems include:
For garment manufacturers these problems affect more than appearance. They increase inspection requirements, complicate cutting and create additional production cost. This is why quality should be judged not only by the hand at sample stage, but also by whether the dyeing and finishing route was designed for a heavy structured cloth. 2. Clear 2/2 Twill ConstructionThe fabric is woven as a 2/2 twill with the warp yarn per 50D composite filament and the weft as 150D DTY plus 40D spandex, as shown in the specification. Holding that structure gives the diagonal line its clarity and provides the firm base the 6% spandex then works with. Clear Diagonal Twill Line
The 2/2 twill construction produces a visible, even diagonal, which reads as a British-style suiting fabric rather than a plain or textured surface.
Firm Structure
A heavy construction holds the shoulder line and gives the fabric the body needed for blazers, suits and wind coats.
Gentle Comfortable Stretch
The built-in 6% spandex gives enough give for everyday movement while the heavy base keeps the line clean.
Excellent Shape Retention
The fabric returns to its pressed shape after wear instead of growing baggy at the elbow or seat.
3. Heavy Woven Dyeing, and Why It Differs from Satin Drap FabricsThis point matters when comparing fabrics. Light drape fabrics are piece dyed on a fluid construction where the surface is the main concern, and the dyeing route is built around protecting a delicate lustre. A heavy twill is different. At 275 GSM the dye has to travel through a dense, heavy construction, so the route is adjusted accordingly. How the Process Works
Step 1 — Heavy woven dyeing formula. The dye recipe and temperature curve are developed for a dense 275 GSM twill rather than copied from a satin route, so the shade builds evenly through the full weight of the cloth.
Step 2 — Width and shade control. The heavy cloth is managed under controlled tension during dyeing so the width stays stable and no shading develops across the width.
Step 3 — Rinsing and reduction managed for a firm hand. Rinsing and reduction are controlled so surface color is removed cleanly without dulling the twill face or softening the hand.
Why This Matters On a heavy cloth a shade difference or a width shift is much harder to correct later, and it affects marker efficiency at the cutting table. Detecting it at the dyeing stage means it can be corrected before the fabric reaches the garment factory. Suppliers who run a satin-style route on a heavy twill may deliver fabric that passes a hand feel check but bows or shades in wear. 4. Finishing for Sharp Seams and Flat PressesThe British-style character of this fabric is created in finishing, not in the yarn. The finishing route is built so the cloth keeps a crisp handle and holds a flat press, rather than being softened toward a fluid drape. Sharp Seams That Stay Sharp. The firm body lets topstitching and seam lines read cleanly on blazers and tailored jackets. Flat Presses and Wrinkle Resistance. The finish is set so the fabric presses flat and resists creasing in transit and in wear. Shape Stability After Finishing. The spandex fraction is balanced so the cloth keeps its recovery and does not distort at the seam. Color Fastness The dyeing route achieves stable color fastness. The actual grade should be confirmed through testing under the applicable standard and test conditions. Where supported by laboratory results, a grade of 4 or above can be specified in the product documentation. For bulk orders, we recommend confirming the required color fastness, shade tolerance, width tolerance and other quality parameters before production. Lab dip approval is carried out before bulk production so the shade is agreed before fabric is committed. 5. Why Fabric Quality Matters to Garment ManufacturersWhen purchasing fabric, the initial price is only one part of the total production cost. A lower-priced stretch twill may appear attractive at the sourcing stage. However, if the dyeing route was not developed for a heavy cloth, the savings on fabric can be offset by losses during garment making. Potential consequences include:
By contrast, a heavy woven dyeing route with a shape-retention finish helps reduce avoidable quality risks. At Henghui Textile, we believe reliable fabric quality begins with the making process, not with the final inspection alone. Our approach emphasises a clear twill construction, a heavy woven dyeing formula and a controlled finishing route, communicated clearly with customers about the requirements of their intended applications. 6. Applications of This British-Style Stretch TwillWith a clear diagonal, firm structure, gentle stretch and clean press behaviour, this fabric can be considered for a range of tailored applications, depending on its actual composition, weight and construction. Potential applications include:
For buyers developing a new collection, the final suitability should be evaluated against the garment design, required press behaviour, structure, comfort and care instructions. Our team can work with buyers to confirm the relevant specifications and finishing requirements before bulk production. 7. Quality Begins with Process ControlAt Shaoxing Henghui Textile Co., Ltd., we understand that the difference between an acceptable fabric and a reliable production fabric often lies in details that are not immediately visible. Weave construction, yarn tension, dyeing temperature, reduction and finishing route all contribute to the final result. We do not run the same route on every fabric. A heavy structured twill and a light fluid drape fabric are different constructions and require different dyeing logic; treating them the same is what causes the quality problems described above. For our customers, the goal is not simply to receive a fabric that feels pleasant in a sample. It is to obtain material that meets the agreed specifications and performs consistently throughout the manufacturing process — batch to batch, and cut to finished garment.
